Hello all,

First off, I want to introduce myself. My name is Justin and I am fairly tech savvy when it comes to computers and more so when it comes to logitech products given that I am a support agent for CD and video devices on windows.

Regardless of that, I have a quickcam orbit MP(m/n: v-uay22, p/n: 861305-0000) and I am also running Ubuntu Hardy Heron. I am able to get the video to display and the built in mic to work but I am unable to control the mechanical PTZ. I did some searching on this site and saw a post with information about the v4l2 driver and a patch that should be getting written to it to allow the MPTZ to work properly. I currently have luvcview installed and had a couple of questions.

When was the post referring to splitting the integer of the MPTZ command into two seperate 16bit integers written and is it still relevant? If not, what steps do I need to take to use the MPTZ?

Also, I wasn't able to find my camera listed in the compatibility list as I don't have access to the 9 level part number, only the 8 level listed above. Normally I would just switch the 8 to a 9, but with my previous experience, that doesn't always work.

On a last note, I haven't completely tested this but from first impressions, while on a call in Skype, the receiving party mentioned a "clicking" sound coming from my transmission. I have proved that this isn't anything that the mic itself is picking up because the volume never changes even when obstructing the mic with a dense object. This could be completely unrelated, but thought it was worth mentioning.

Thanks for any comments in advance.

Thanks.

Many thanks Kachi. That does help me understand the clicking.

Any updates on the uvc driver update to help control the mechanical PTZ?
You can use libwebcam/uvcdynctrl to control pan and tilt. I recommend the SVN HEAD version. (Sorry, the tutorial isn't quite up-to-date, the driver patch is in fact obsolete.) The latest version of luvcview works together with the dynamic controls set up by uvcdynctrl, so that the pan/tilt buttons should work.

By the way, there is no mechanical zoom, only pan and tilt.
Thanks a lot for the links.

I do apologize for the reference to mechanical zoom. It's just habit when referring to pan and tilt.
