Full Version: Shutter type different cams?

Hello,

This is a request for Martin. Would it be possible to add information on shutter type for each camera on the list of UVC cameras or have that information elsewhere. Especially which camers have global shutter. It seems that many people on this forum use Logitech cams for machine vision applications and this information would be useful. I saw it somewhere that 4000 Pro model has global shutter. Any others?

Thanks.
The reason I asked is that I came across a paper in the European J. of Physics that had the following statement which contradicts the FAQ:

The movement has been filmed with a USB 4000 Pro Logitech webcam. This camera has been selected for different reasons. First, because it provides good temporal and spatial resolutions (30 frames s-1 with a resolution of 480 × 640). Moreover, this model incorporates the so-called global shutter system. This system controls the exposure of sensor pixels acting as a trigger mechanism, so that all pixels are recorded at the same time, which allows us to take sharp pictures ofmoving images. Many cameras have a cheaper system called ‘rolling shutter’, which captures the image by rows in a sequential manner, causing deformation in the image when fast movements are being filmed. Finally, this camera allows working with relatively short exposure times (up to 1/5000), which is necessary when analysing fast movements.
I asked around some more: The FAQ applies to our current cameras. The QuickCam Pro 4000 may indeed have had a global shutter at the time.
