My family is pressuring me to buy a webcam by Thanksgiving.

I run Ubuntu 8.10 Linux (aka Intrepid Ibex)

The 4th generation noted in your Documentation > FAQs mentions the various 8-level P/N of each generation, except the one slated for Q4.

(see http://www.quickcamteam.net/documentatio...-are-there )

Do you anticipate that the new webcam will be out by Thanksgiving?

Additionally, we'll be grandparents again sometime around Christmas or a few weeks thereafter - the pressure is on to buy now.

Any word as to what the new 8-level product number will be so we can be on the watch for it?

Larry
I have updated the FAQ, but unfortunately there won't be any new product numbers for the fourth generation. The only way to tell is by connecting the camera and checking the USB BCD. Sorry for the inconvenience. :-|
Thanks again your input!

When the next generation webcams are released in December 2008, please let us know.

I would like to but unfortunately it's not possible to give any exact date, even after the actual release. The reason is that the 4th generation will be seamlessly phased in (hence the same P/Ns), so when and where you will be able to buy it depends on many factors such as how much stock your dealer has.

If you really want the 4th generation of the QuickCam Pro 9000 you may have to wait and keep looking. Alternatively, you can have a look at our 1.3 MP cameras. They don't suffer from the same issue on Linux.
